Stak is operated by Black Oak Digital LLC, doing business as Stak Finance ("Stak," "we," "us"). These terms are the agreement between you and us for using the Stak app and website. By creating an account or using Stak, you accept them.
Stak is a personal budgeting app. It shows you your own financial information and helps you plan around it.
Stak is not a bank. We do not hold your money, move your money, or make payments. We cannot deposit, withdraw, or transfer anything. Every dollar stays where it already is, at your own financial institutions.
Nothing in Stak is financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. That includes anything the AI chat feature tells you. Stak does not recommend that you take or avoid any financial action, and it is not a substitute for a professional who knows your situation. Every financial decision you make is yours. For advice about your circumstances, talk to a qualified professional.
This is the most important thing in these terms, so it gets its own section.
The information in Stak can be delayed, incomplete, or wrong. We receive your bank data through Plaid, which receives it from your financial institutions. Transactions can post late, appear as pending and then change, arrive out of order, or not arrive at all. Balances can be stale. A category or merchant name we assign can be incorrect.
Your bank is the authority, not Stak. Before you make a decision that depends on an exact number, including anything that could overdraw an account or cause a missed payment, check with your financial institution directly. Do not treat Stak as your balance of record.
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement. Stak is offered in the United States and is not designed for use elsewhere.
Give us accurate information when you sign up, and keep it current. You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your sign-in credentials and your device secure. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access.
When you link an account, you authorize us and Plaid to access it on your behalf and retrieve your balances and transactions. You confirm you are entitled to give that permission for the accounts you connect.
You enter your bank credentials directly with Plaid or your bank. We never see or store them. Plaid's handling of your information is governed by the Plaid End User Privacy Policy, and by connecting an account you also accept Plaid's terms.
You can disconnect an account at any time. Information already imported may remain in your budget, on your devices and on our servers, until you clear it.
How we collect, use, store, and delete your information is covered in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Your budgeting data belongs to you. We do not sell it, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Stak stores your budget on our servers so that it is available on any device you sign in on, and keeps a copy on your device so the app works without a connection. Changes you make offline sync the next time you reconnect.
Because the same budget can be open on more than one device, if you change the same thing in two places before they have synced, the most recent change wins and the earlier one is replaced. Sync keeps your devices consistent; it is not a backup service. You remain responsible for keeping your own records of anything you cannot afford to lose.
Do not use Stak to break the law, access an account you are not entitled to, interfere with or overload our systems, attempt to reverse engineer or extract our source code, or resell access to the service. Do not use it to store information about someone else without their permission.
We are building Stak actively, which means features can change, be added, or be removed. We may need to take the service down for maintenance, and things sometimes break. We do not promise uninterrupted availability.
Some parts of Stak depend on third parties, including Plaid, your financial institutions, Supabase, and Anthropic. When they have an outage or change how they work, Stak can be affected in ways we do not control. Syncing in particular requires a working connection to our servers; when it is unavailable, Stak keeps working with the copy on your device.
You can stop using Stak whenever you like.
To clear your budget without closing your account, use Reset my data in Settings. That erases it from your devices and from our servers. To close your account entirely, use Delete my account in Settings, which revokes every bank connection, erases what we hold, and removes your account record. It is immediate and permanent. You can also email the address below and we will do it for you.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that we reasonably believe is being used for fraud or abuse, or where we are required to by law.
Stak, including its software, design, and the Stak name and logo, belongs to Black Oak Digital LLC. Using the app does not transfer any of that to you. Other companies named in the app own their own trademarks; we reference them only to identify their products.
Stak is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error free, or that the information in it will be accurate or complete.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Black Oak Digital LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any lost profits, lost data, overdraft or bank fees, missed payments, or other financial losses arising from your use of Stak or from reliance on information shown in it.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for any claim relating to Stak is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Black Oak Digital LLC from claims, losses, and reasonable legal costs arising from your misuse of Stak, your violation of these terms, or your violation of someone else's rights.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction.
We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the date at the top, and if the change is significant we will tell you in the app or by email. Continuing to use Stak after a change means you accept the updated terms.
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce something right away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us about Stak.
